Stokes County man charged with murder in his infant sons death

A Stokes County man is facing charges after his son died at Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem, authorities said Friday.

Colby James Perdue, 24, who lives in the Pine Hall community, was arrested Friday and charged with murder and felony child abuse, causing serious bodily injuries, according to an arrest warrant and the Stokes County Sheriff's Office.

Perdue is accused of killing his son, Preston Grey Perdue, who was 2½-years-old, and assaulting the boy causing the infant to suffer fractured ribs, according to the warrant and sheriff's office.

Colby Perdue is being held in the Stokes County Jail without bond, the sheriff's office said. He is scheduled to appear on Tuesday in Stokes District Court.

On April 28, the sheriff's office was contacted by Brenner Children's Hospital regarding an infant boy who was brought to the hospital with injuries, the sheriff's office said.

The boy, Preston Perdue, died of his injuries.

Sheriff's office investigators and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation then identified Colby Perdue as a suspect linked to the boy's death, the sheriff's office said.

The case is heart-wrenching, Stokes Sheriff Joey Lemons said in a statement.

"We want to extend our thoughts and prayers to all those affected by this tragic incident," Lemons said.
