CVS and Whole Foods employees in Charlotte test positive for COVID-19, officials said
Two more retailers in the Charlotte area report that workers have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, company officials said.
On Friday, an employee at the CVS Pharmacy on Kendall Drive store in Charlotte tested positive for COVID-19, company spokeswoman Amy Thibault told the Observer Monday. WSOC-TV first reported the case.
The employee had not worked since April 9, Thibault said. COVID-19 is the disease caused by the new coronavirus.
The employee and any co-workers exposed to the worker are on paid leave and under a 14-day quarantine, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
CVS Pharmacy safety measures include hourly cleanings of hard surfaces and more frequent cleaning of commonly handled items.
An employee at Whole Foods Market on East Stonewall Street in uptown also tested positive, Observer news partner WBTV reported Monday.
Whole Foods safety measures include following social distancing guideline, installing Plexiglas shields at check out, and requiring temperature checks and face masks for anyone working in stores and facilities.
Other workers test positive
Last week, Matthews-based grocer Harris Teeter said five employees at two of its three distribution centers tested positive for COVID-19. A grocery store employee at the Arboretum location in Charlotte also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Seven workers have tested positive at Amazon centers in the Charlotte area. And Target said this month an employee tested positive at the Midtown store.
