Duke Energy selling uptown Charlotte parking garage across from Bank of America Stadium
Duke Energy will sell its South Mint Street parking garage to Berlin-based Millennium Venture Capital, the Charlotte utility said Wednesday.
The six-story uptown site at 410 S. Mint St. has over 2,200 parking spaces. It will remain a garage under its new owner for now, according to Duke Energy spokeswoman Caroline Portillo.
The garage is across Graham Street from Bank of America Stadium.
Duke Energy expects to save about $1 million annually by selling the garage, Portillo said in an email to The Charlotte Observer.
The deal is expected to be complete in late 2022 or early 2023. Duke Energy declined to disclose the sales price for now, though Portillo said the amount will become public when the deal is finalized.
The parking garage sale is part of Duke Energy’s larger plan to cut its real estate holdings.
In May, the company announced it would sell two uptown buildings. Millennium Venture Capital purchased the 401 S. College St. property, while Washington-based MRP Realty purchased the 526 S. Church St. property with a plan to more than double its height.
Overall, Duke Energy expects to save up to $90 million over the next five years by consolidating its real estate, Portillo said.
