Company’s move from Fort Mill to Rock Hill brings $30M investment, almost 50 new jobs
An automation company that’s growing in Fort Mill, has even bigger plans in the Rock Hill region.
York County voted Monday night to approve a fee agreement for STIWA US. General manager Andreas Prokesch said construction will start next spring and operations in fall of 2024 for the 2657 Long Meadow Road site in Rock Hill. The first phase will be 70,000 of office building and adjoining workshop.
The site will be expandable to more than 300,000 square feet.
“This building will become our new North America headquarters,” Prokesch said.
According to the agreement, STIWA will invest about $30 million within five years. The company will create at least 48 new, full-time jobs. The county agrees to assess the property at 6% for 30 years if those requirements are met.
STIWA specializes in automation, manufacturing and software. The company founded in Austria in 1972 started as a family one, Prokesch said, that grew into a global one. The company has about 2,300 employees across three continents.
“Our Fort Mill office is growing rapidly and is holding now 32 employees,” Prokesch said.
Early last year Crescent Communities announced STIWA would move from Matthews, N.C. to a 24,000-square-foot space in the new Stateline Logistics Center in Lakemont Business Park, near Carowinds in Fort Mill.
The new site is in southern, unincorporated Rock Hill. It’s just east of I-77, north of the Mt. Holly Road interchange and south of the Porter Road exit. The new site is a portion of the 50-acre tract owned by Brico LLC, per county land records. It’s just north of Mt. Holly Elementary School.
