Frontier Airlines continues expansion at Charlotte airport with new route to Florida
Direct travel to Tampa from Charlotte will be easier, and cheaper, come May.
Low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines will be adding two weekly nonstop flights between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Tampa International Airport starting on May 2, the airline announced Monday.
The rollout will expand to four flights per week starting on May 22, according to a news release.
The new route marks the 14th destination Frontier offers at the airport, as the Denver-based company continues to increase its presence in the region.
Frontier’s expansion at CLT
Over the summer, Frontier began offering nonstop flights to Boston, Miami and Cincinnati. Earlier last year, it added flights to six other U.S. and Caribbean destinations including New York/LaGuardia; Houston-Bush; Dallas-Fort Worth; Chicago O’Hare; Baltimore-Washington; Buffalo, New York; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
While the airline is expanding, it also ended some services. Last year, Frontier cut service to Las Vegas and Trenton, New Jersey.
Frontier came to Charlotte in 2014 and makes up less than 1.5% of flights, according to the airport.
But it’s still considered another option for passengers. With Charlotte being a hub for American Airlines, about 87% of all flights out of Charlotte Douglas are flown by AA, according to the facility.
To mark the new route, Frontier will be offering fares as low as $29. Fares are valid on specific days, which can be checked on the airline’s website.
