Novant Health acquires OrthoCarolina locations in Charlotte and Triad regions

Novant Health is partnering with MedQuest Associates to take over 15 medical imaging locations in the Charlotte region from OrthoCarolina, Novant said Tuesday.

This deal also includes three locations in the Piedmont Triad region.

Novant has acquired fixed and mobile MRI assets from Charlotte-based OrthoCarolina, which will continue to provide care through the transition period. Novant declined to provide the cost of the deal.

MedQuest, based in the Atlanta area, will handle daily operations after the changeover. The company works with healthcare systems to provide diagnostic imaging solutions for patients. MedQuest operates more than 50 outpatient centers and mobile radiology units.

“Imaging is a critical component of the care continuum and serves as the foundation for helping patients receive the accurate diagnoses and treatments they need,” said Bruce Elder, MedQuest, chief development officer, in a statement.

Winston-Salem based Novant is the second largest health care provider in the Charlotte area, behind Atrium Health. Novant announced a commitment to expand MedQuest across the country two years ago, said Dean Swindle, Novant executive vice president and chief strategy officer, and president of Novant Health Enterprises.

The deal allows OrthoCarolina to focus on enhancing its orthopedic care and patient experiences by sending its imaging teams to MedQuest, added OrthoCarolina CEO Dr. Leo Spector.

Novant Health, the second largest health care provider in the Charlotte area, is working with MedQuest and OrthoCarolina to improve imaging services in the region.
