Avelo Airlines is adding three new routes at Concord-Padgett Regional Airport this fall, with nonstop flights to Puerto Rico, the Miami area and upstate New York, the low-cost carrier announced Thursday.
Service between the Charlotte region and San Juan, Puerto Rico, will start on Oct. 22, with flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Flights to West Palm Beach, Florida, and Albany, New York, will kick off Oct. 23, with service on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
One-way fares start at $57, and reservations can be made at AveloAir.com.
Avelo at the Concord airport
Houston-based Avelo became the third airline at Concord’s airport in May 2024. The first flight went to New Haven, Connecticut.
Trevor Yealy, head of commercial development for Avelo, said at the time that the company wanted the opportunity to serve the Concord and Charlotte region. The airport and its parking are also convenient for customers, he added. “Easy in, easy out,” he said. “The parking lot is only a stone’s throw from the terminal, which is really nice.”
But not everything has been smooth for the airline in Concord.
Avelo canceled several routes at the Concord airport this year due to poor performance and low ticket sales, The Charlotte Observer previously reported. Some of those destinations included Nashville International Airport in Tennessee and Daytona Beach International Airport in Florida.
Avelo made plans to start routes to Washington Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in May. But the airline scrapped back those flights too.
One route, Lakeland Linder International Airport in Florida, also was cut this year, but will return in the fall. The route is now scheduled to come back in mid-November for peak holiday and winter travel.
About Concord Regional Airport
Concord-Padgett Airport is owned by the city and opened in 1994. It was renamed in honor of former mayor Scott Padgett in 2018.
The one-runway airport also provides service for Allegiant Air and Sun Country Airlines. NASCAR race teams use the airport often because of its proximity to Charlotte Motor Speedway.
It’s an alternative to the nearby Charlotte Douglas International Airport, one of the world’s busiest airports and a major hub for American Airlines.
