Advocate Health and Charlotte launch free training program for health start-ups

Advocate Health and Charlotte leaders are preparing to put entrepreneurs through a free business bootcamp at The Pearl, the city’s new innovation district.

gBETA Charlotte Health, a seven-week program, will start on April 2, the partners announced Tuesday. It is designed for new startups working in health technology, digital medicine and life sciences, according to a news release from the city.

The goal is to provide local founders with expert guidance and contacts to help them grow their companies, create jobs and attract investment. The program is open to founders and early-stage companies in Charlotte, or those planning to establish themselves here.

This includes entrepreneurs working on healthcare solutions and projects related to patient care, life sciences, community health, nutrition and health-focused sustainability. Founders based in Mecklenburg County are encouraged to apply.

The program is operated by Madison, Wisconsin-based gener8tor, which supports startups, workers, employers, artists and musicians.

This new initiative is a continuation of a Charlotte program that launched in 2024. Ten companies graduated from that cohort, collectively raising $2.2 million in capital and creating 69 jobs.

The sessions will be held at Connect Labs at The Pearl, the $1.5 billion innovation district and home to the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Charlotte, the city’s first four-year medical school. Plans for the district also include retail, offices, apartments, a parking structure, and an outdoor plaza.

Startups will have access to laboratories, workspaces, meeting rooms and event spaces. The location also places entrepreneurs near healthcare institutions and research organizations.
