Susan DeVore, chief executive officer of Charlotte-based Premier Inc., was among 100 leaders recognized in an inaugural contest by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the business school accrediting body and membership association.

The Influential Leaders Challenge was designed to recognize businesswomen and businessmen who “display visionary leadership above and beyond the stereotypical business school graduate,” according to the association. DeVore was nominated by UNC Charlotte, her alma mater.

DeVore has been at the helm of Premier since 2009. She steered the health solutions company through its $874 million stock market debut in 2013, marking the biggest initial public offering for a Charlotte company in at least 35 years.

She has also been named one of Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare and was recently named Queens University of Charlotte’s 2014 BusinessWoman of the Year.

Other North Carolina winners on the AACSB list include Ted Mosler, chief technical officer at Raleigh-based medical device manufacturer EG-GILERO, and James Owens, former chairman and CEO of Caterpillar Inc. Both are N.C. State graduates.

Other nationally recognized names include former Secretary of State Colin Powell and Make-A-Wish America President and CEO David Williams.

AACSB-accredited schools submitted notable alumni for the challenge from April to June, then a selection committee reviewed and selected winners based on the positive impact the business school graduates have made.

“The Influential Leaders Challenge is the story of how AACSB-accredited schools and their esteemed alumni are positive catalysts for change,” William Glick, chair of AACSB’s board of directors and Centennial Committee, said in a statement.

The winners were announced Tuesday at AACSB’s 2015 Annual Accreditation Conference in Chicago.
