A Charlotte-area restaurant with ties to a pop band is headed to Vegas, baby!
Nellie’s Southern Kitchen, owned by the Jonas Brothers’ family, will make its Las Vegas debut with a grand opening celebration June 4 at MGM Grand, according to a company news release May 16. Nellie’s expansion plans were first announced in November, The Charlotte Observer previously reported.
The trio also will be in Nevada for their upcoming show “Jonas Brothers: Live in Las Vegas” June 3-4 and June 9-11 at Dolby Live at Park MGM.
The restaurant is owned by Kevin Sr. and Denise Jonas, and their famous sons Kevin, Joe and Nick — the pop band trio Jonas Brothers — and younger son Franklin. They teamed up with New York City-based investment firm TLI Bedrock to open the second Nellie’s location.
The Jonas family opened the first Nellie’s five years ago on Main Street in downtown Belmont, west of Charlotte. The opening celebration included a performance by the Jonas Brothers. And fans packed the restaurant last month before the “Remember This” tour stopped at PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte.
The restaurant’s name pays homage to Kevin Sr.’s grandmother, Nellie, who lived in Belmont until she died 10 years ago, and where Kevin Sr. grew up.
Nellie’s serves Southern-style family recipes including fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits, and chicken and dumplings.
What to expect at Nellie’s in Vegas
Along with Southern dishes, the 11,000-square-foot restaurant will include live entertainment, just like in Belmont, plus, according to MGM, an extended cocktail menu with exclusive-to-Vegas offerings.
Chef Mario Nichols from Nellie’s Belmont location will lead the Vegas kitchen.
Southern dishes on the menu include chicken and dumplings, pecan-smoked pulled pork sandwich and meat loaf.
“To open a restaurant in the heart of the iconic Las Vegas Strip is thrilling, and I know my Grandma Nellie would be truly amazed seeing her name in lights,” Kevin Sr. said in a statement. “Our family loves Las Vegas. We have spent significant time in the city and are proud to invite everyone to pull up a seat and enjoy our family’s hospitality and treasured family recipes.”
The Jonas Brothers have held concerts at MGM Grand Garden Arena and its sister property Park MGM and Mandalay Bay.
