Girl, 12, boy, 11, charged with involuntary manslaughter in fatal Charlotte school fight

A 12-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy were charged with involuntary manslaughter after another 11-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle near a Charlotte middle school Thursday night.

The boy died at a hospital after a driver hit him about 6:25 p.m. at Rama Road and Cabotwood Lane, outside McClintock Middle School in southeast Charlotte, police said.

The victim had been in an altercation with the two youths near Rama Road, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release late Friday.

“This altercation led to the victim entering the roadway and ultimately being struck by a vehicle,” police said in the release.

Medics took the victim to a hospital, where staff pronounced him dead, police said.

Police charged the girl and boy after taking them to CMPD headquarters for interviews. Their names will not be released, due to their ages, police said.

The driver who hit the victim will not be charged, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-8477 and speak with a CMPD homicide unit detective. Or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
