Pedestrian was intentionally killed, cops say as Charlotte homicide toll mounts to 105
A 56-year-old pedestrian was intentionally killed in southwest Charlotte on Friday afternoon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
Robert Michael Hopkins died after he was hit about 3 p.m. near the intersection of South Tryon Street and Ayrsley Town Boulevard in Steele Creek, according to a CMPD news release. He was pronounced dead at Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center, police said.
He was found near the Ayrsley Grand Cinema in the popular Ayrsley shopping center just south of Interstate 485, Charlotte Observer news partner WBTV reported.
Hopkins was Charlotte’s 105th homicide victim of 2019.
Police have not said if they have a suspect.
