For second time this week, CMPD investigates body found at McAlpine Creek Park

Police found two people dead in a Charlotte creek on Wednesday.

Responding to “a welfare call for service” in the 8700 block of Monroe Road, officers found the body of a female in a creek bed, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release Wednesday night.

Police said they found a second person dead about 200 yards upstream. CMPD did not specify whether the second person was male or female. Names of the people found had not been released as of Thursday morning.

It’s the second time this week officers say they’ve found someone dead in the area of McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte. Earlier, police say a person walking in the park Sunday afternoon discovered the body of 55-year-old Van Thien Huynh. Detectives say Huynh was murdered and they’ve made an arrest.

“Homicide detectives are working with the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine a cause of death,” according to the CMPD release.

“Once the Medical Examiner’s Office has reviewed all evidence related to the case, CMPD will provide an update with the cause and/or manner of (each) victim’s death,” police said in the release.
