Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation closed a section of the McMullen Creek Greenway Saturday morning because of damage caused by Friday’s severe storm.

Sections of boardwalk were damaged below the parking lot off Hwy 51., near the 1-mile marker of the walking-running-biking path. The greenway system, which also includes Four Mile Creek Greenway, provides an asphalt and boardwalk system of nearly six miles for exercise in south Charlotte.

High winds and heavy rain from a storm late Friday afternoon toppled numerous trees. Duke Energy reported that 64,600 customers lost power as a result of that storm.
