Suspect in Charlotte woman’s fatal stabbing had 11 arrests in 3 years, records show
A suspect in the fatal stabbing of a Charlotte woman had 11 prior arrests in Mecklenburg County in the past three years, jail records show.
Tierra Shontinae Watson was stabbed multiple times in an east Charlotte apartment late Tuesday and was pronounced dead at the scene, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Wednesday. She was 28 years old.
Anthony Garcia, 28 and from Charlotte, was charged with murder, police said. He was in the apartment when police arrived just after 11 p.m., according to a CMPD news release.
The apartment is in the 3500 block of Taurus Drive, off North Sharon Amity Road.
Police are not releasing further details about the case.
Since 2017, Garcia has been charged with assault on a female, violating a domestic violence protective order, assault with a deadly weapon, car theft, communicating threats, possession of a controlled substance in jail and other offenses, jail records show.
At least seven of the charges remain pending, according to court records, while at least two charges have been dismissed.
Garcia was found guilty of at least seven offenses in years before 2017, court records show.
Police called the investigation into Watson’s death “active and ongoing.”
