Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center will soon reopen to public for meetings
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government center will reopen to the public on a limited basis in just over a week, the city announced on Friday.
The government center closed to the public in mid-August because of a spike in COVID-19 cases in Charlotte. It had reopened in June, after being closed to the public throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
Beginning Oct. 18, the public can attend meetings of Charlotte City Council, the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners and Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board. The building will open 30 minutes prior to meetings, and close 15 minutes after their conclusion.
A mask mandate will remain in place at the government center.
On Nov. 1, the building will resume regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and when there are public meetings.
The city said the center’s in-person policy could change if there’s new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, or other public agencies or if there are additional executive orders from Gov. Roy Cooper that increase public health restrictions.
All City Council and committee meetings will continue to be live-streamed on the city’s Facebook and YouTube pages, the GOV Channel on television and the GOV Channel’s homepage.
