Thousands of runners soak up sunny skies, perfect temperatures at Charlotte Marathon

Sunny skies and ideal temperatures greeted more than 6,000 runners who turned out for Saturday’s Novant Health Charlotte Marathon.

The 26.2-mile marathon started and finished in uptown, following a course through numerous Charlotte neighborhoods.

Adam Jones of Charlotte was the top male finisher with a time of 2:23:50, followed by Josh Stone of Taylorsville (2:28:30) and Xavier Salvador of Albany, New York (2:37:41), according to the marathon website.

Mimi Smith of Wilmette, Illinois, was the top female finisher, finishing in 11th place with a time of 2:48:37. followed by Anne Fechtel of Charlotte (3:00:48) and Beth Mask of Charlotte (3:11:47).

Last year’s marathon events were held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Saturday’s events also included a half-marathon, 5K, marathon relay, Chick-fil-A Kids Dash and a health and wellness expo.
