CMS Superintendent fired by school board

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education voted 7-2 on Tuesday to fire Superintendent Earnest Winston, effective immediately. Here’s everything you need to know.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education will meet today with the expectation to terminate current Superintendent Earnest Winston’s contract.

The emergency meeting is scheduled to take place at 12:30 p.m. in the Chamber Room of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center and will be open to the public.

On Monday, Winston was told by the school board that “separation was the best path forward.” Winston, who has not resigned, is not expected to attend the meeting.

Winston, 47, has led the district since August 2019.
