WBTV weekend meteorologist announces departure from station after seven years
WBTV weekend meteorologist Leigh Brock announced on Saturday that she is leaving the station.
“So this is it!” Brock said on Twitter Saturday morning. “After 7 years at WBTV, my last day will be on Wednesday.”
Brock said her last weekend morning show will be on Sunday.
“So make sure you tune in!” Brock said on Twitter “I will miss y’all!”
On Twitter, WBTV replied: “We’ll miss you, @LeighBrock2 !
‘Life after news’
Brock didn’t say why she is leaving WBTV. She couldn’t immediately be reached by the Observer.
Brock is departing the news business, WBTV anchor and reporter Caroline Hicks said on Twitter.
“We will miss her SO much!” Hicks said. “But we’re so happy for her as she explores the exciting world of #LifeAfterNews. ”
The Hendersonville native and UNC grad joined WBTV in 2014, according to her station bio.
Watching WBTV meteorologists Eric Thomas and Al Conklin inspired her to attend grad school at Mississippi State University to become a meteorologist, she said.
Thomas retired at the end of 2021 after a 33-year career, The Charlotte Observer reported at the time. Conklin, who worked side-by-side with Thomas for 28 years, was named WBTV’s new chief meteorologist in December.
Brock’s career began at WBOY in Clarksburg, West Virginia. In less than a year, she joined WFMZ in Allentown, Pennsylvania, but “it was way too cold up there!” she writes on her station bio.
She joined WFMY in Greensboro before leaving to work for the Red Cross for a year. She next joined WBTV.
Brock has been the meteorologist on WBTV’s weekend mornings show.
