Charlotte-area woman ‘can’t wipe the smile off’ after winning big on lottery scratch-off
Marcie Parfitt of Mount Holly says her cheeks are hurting because of all the smiling she’s doing lately.
“I can’t wipe the smile off my face,” Parfitt told NC Education Lottery officials.
Parfitt, 38, won a $150,000 lottery jackpot after buying a $5 scratch-off ticket, lottery officials said in a news release. She bought the winning Super Loteria ticket on her daily trip for coffee at Xpress Market on Tuckaseege Road in Mount Holly, according to lottery officials.
“I kept looking at it over and over to make sure it was real,” Parfitt said. “I thought it was fake.”
Parfitt called her husband right away to tell him about her winning.
“He was like, ‘Are you messing with me,’” Parfitt said. “It’s definitely a blessing.”
Parfitt is the first winner in the new Super Loteria game. She arrived at lottery headquarters on Tuesday to collect her prize and took home $106,516 after taxes, lottery officials said.
Paying bills and buying some land is what Parfitt said she plans on doing with the money. The odds of winning a prize in the Super Loteria game’s is 1 in 3.85, according to the NC Education Lottery website. Parfitt’s ticket was one of five in the state with the $150,000 prize.
