Brown Bag Seafood Co., a new Charlotte restaurant, received an “A” grade during its first inspection by the Mecklenburg County Health Department.

The restaurant, which opened in South End last week, received a score of 99 during its Dec. 7 inspection.

Health department inspectors only cited the restaurant when an employee water bottle was found on a prep table, documents show.

Restaurant employees must store personal food items away from areas where they can contaminate food, according to the N.C. Food Code Manual.

The eatery was also dinged for storing a scoop for rice preparation in room-temperature water. According to the food code manual, in-use utensils must be stored in containers of water with a minimum temperature of 135 degrees.

The Chicago-based restaurant chain made its North Carolina debut in August, opening at Birkdale Village, The Charlotte Observer reported. A third store is expected to open early next year at 601 S. Tryon St. in the Ally Center in uptown Charlotte.
