Teen driver hits and kills 16-year-old on scooter in uptown Charlotte

A teen driver struck and killed another teen who was riding a scooter Saturday night in uptown Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The crash happened early evening at Mint Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard, near Truist Field, according to a CMPD news release.

Officers say shortly before 6:30 p.m., 16-year-old Carlos David Caro Sevilla was riding a scooter and was hit by a truck. Caro Sevilla died on the way to the hospital, CMPD officials said.

CMPD’s preliminary investigation shows that the driver of the Dodge truck, who was also a juvenile, was attempting to make a right turn on to Mint Street from W Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard. At the same time, Caro Sevilla, operating the scooter, entered the crosswalk where the truck was turning and was hit, CMPD says.

The juvenile driver of the Dodge remained on scene. The driver was screened for drugs and alcohol and CMPD says the teen was sober.
