1 person injured, airlifted from south Charlotte house fire that caused $540K in damages.

One person is being treated for serious injuries after a fire consumed a house in south Charlotte, officials say.

The blaze erupted around midnight in a single-family home on the 3400 block Abbey Hill Lane.

According to the Charlotte Fire Department, the fire was accidental, caused by improper discarding of smoking materials. Officials say it took 30 firefighters to control the fire over an hour.

Two people inside were taken to the hospital. One has been released but firefighters say the other was airlifted to a burn center.

The fire department says the home is a complete loss, with about $540,000 worth of damages.
