Traffic congested on I-77 during afternoon rush hour due to pair of crashes
A pair of accidents on Interstate 77 North in Charlotte snarled traffic at the start of rush hour Monday and just ahead of the potential for strong storms.
One crash was reported at the interchange with Interstate 85, and a little further north, there was another accident near the Sunset Road exits. Traffic was backed up along I-77 from at least Sunset Road to the Brookshire Boulevard exit.
Paramedics were on the scene at Exit 13A on I-77’s northbound lanes near Interstate 85. Four people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
What to do when stuck in traffic with severe weather
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch throughout the Charlotte area until 9 p.m. It warned people of damaging winds, isolated tornadoes and hail.
If unable to make it to shelter, the NWS recommends covering your head while low in your car or abandoning your car altogether to seek shelter in low-lying areas, such as a ditch or ravine.
This is a developing story.
