Editor’s note: This story has been updated to reflect when the missing swimmer’s body was found.

Authorities were still searching for a swimmer who went missing in Mountain Island Lake Wednesday afternoon.

The swimmer was reported missing at about 3 p.m., according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department new release. Police and the Huntersville Fire Department searched until about 10 p.m. and resumed the search Thursday morning. On Friday morning, they found the man’s body.

It was not clear exactly when or where in the lake the swimmer went missing.

The lake sits about 12 miles north of Charlotte and 10 miles south of Lake Norman. It is bordered by Cowans Ford Wildlife Refuge and Latta and Rural Hill Nature Preserves.

First responders began the search at the “nearest access point,” which was the North Kayak Access in Latta Nature Preserve.

This is a developing story.
