Speeding Porsche driver, 16, killed at Lake Norman after hitting a tree, police say
A 16-year-old Porsche driver died and two passengers were hospitalized early Saturday after her speeding car hit a tree and a rock landscaping wall in Mooresville near Lake Norman, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
The driver, Mooresville resident Stella Grace Bright, was pronounced dead at the scene, Trooper Christopher Casey said.
Bright veered off Brawley School Road near Mansfield Loop in her 2014 Porsche 911 about 3:20 a.m. Saturday, Casey said in a news release.
Two juvenile passengers in the car were taken to local hospitals with injuries, the trooper said. Their conditions weren’t known Saturday.
Bright and a front-seat passenger had seat belts on, according to the release. A juvenile in the back area of the car not designed for passengers was not wearing a seat belt, Casey said.
Brawley School Road was closed three hours during the on-scene investigation, according to the trooper.
The Highway Patrol did not release how fast investigators believe the car was going, only that speed contributed to the crash.
