Charlotte will shut down light rail Saturday and Sunday. Here’s why and when
A significant portion of Charlotte’s public transportation system will shut down Saturday and Sunday, CATS announced.
All LYNX Blue Line and CityLYNX Gold Line services will be suspended for “preventative maintenance” from Oct. 7 through 8, according to a rider alert sent by CATS. A previous alert had said both lines would be shut down from Oct. 6 through 8.
The part of the Rail Trail located at the LYNX Blue Line East/West Station also will “be closed Oct. 6 until further notice,” the alert said.
“This annual maintenance allows crews to perform necessary improvements to the rail system and helps keep rail trips seamless and reliable,” CATS said.
Normal service will resume on the Blue and Gold lines at 5 a.m. Oct. 9, and “bus bridges will be in place” during the shutdown.
The Carolina Panthers will play an away game, in Detroit, and Charlotte FC will be in Chicago. Other events in Charlotte during the closure include Mecklenburg Oktoberfest, set for Oct. 7 at Truist Field, and the Hola Charlotte Festival also Oct. 7 on Tryon Street.
The Blue Line has 384,156 monthly riders, and the Gold Line about 38,000, the Charlotte Observer reported previously.
Riders with questions or concerns can call 704-336-7433 to speak with CATS customer service.
