These streets in uptown will be closed during the Charlotte MLK Day Parade on Saturday

Charlotte’s Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade is expected to draw thousands visitors to uptown on Saturday to celebrate the legacy of the civil rights leader.

More than 100 organizations will participate in the event, which will include floats with the student winners of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools MLK Art and Writing Contests and local performance groups.

The parade, which lasts from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, will begin at the intersection of North Tryon Street and Ninth Street, and will go down Tryon Street and end at Third Street.

Drivers can expect detours along that street, and on Tryon Street from Eighth Street to 11th Street, where staging will take place, according to the parade route.
