2024 Charlotte Turkey Trot: Which roads will be closed on Thanksgiving? See route maps

Thousands of people are gearing up for one of the biggest Thanksgiving traditions in the city: The annual Charlotte Turkey Trot.

Boasted as the largest road race in North Carolina, runners will be filling the streets of the SouthPark area on Thursday, Nov. 28 for an 8K run, a 5K run/walk, a one-mile fun run/walk and a 50-yard Tot Trot.

Last year, the race had over 10,250 participants. This year, organizers are expecting about 8,000 runners, according to city officials.

Charlotte Turkey Trot start time

The Harris Teeter 1-Mile Run will begin at 8 a.m. followed by the CPI Security 8K at 8:10 a.m. and the CPI Security 5K at 9:10 a.m.

The Harris Teeter Tot Trot for kids 8 and under will have multiple heats from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Dick’s Sporting Goods parking lot of the mall.

Roads closed for Charlotte Turkey Trot

With all of the races beginning and ending near SouthPark mall, several roads in the area will be closed off during the event.

The one-mile run, 5K and 8K races will all start on Barclay Downs Boulevard with other portions of the following roads blocked off for participants, according to the City of Charlotte website:

  • Runnymede Lane
  • Selwyn Avenue
  • Colony Road
  • Sharon Road
  • Ferncliffe Road
  • Richardson Drive
  • Colony Road
  • Roxborough Road
  • Rexford Road
  • Coca Cola Plaza
  • Morrison Boulevard
