A new weekday evening news anchor is set to make her debut at WBTV in Charlotte next month, the news channel said Monday.

Kym Anderson, who has been working in Alabama at WPMI for the last 18 years, will begin at WBTV on April 7, a news release from WBTV said.

“Kym’s energy and enthusiasm are infectious, and we knew immediately that she would be a great fit at WBTV,” said Jason Stevens, WBTV’s news director. “Her commitment to the community is exactly what our ‘On Your Side’ brand is all about.”

Anderson grew up in southern California and attended Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, where she appeared on two local news channels. She also appeared on a local NPR station in Anniston, Alabama, the news channel said.

Anderson will anchor the news at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., and co-anchor On Your Side Tonight with Jamie Boll at 7 p.m., WBTV said.

“I am honored to be joining the ranks of such an esteemed team at WBTV in the beautiful Queen City,” Anderson said in a statement. “I’ve watched the city grow and it’s truly an exciting time to be here and share the diverse stories of the many facets of our community.”
