Steele Creek is named for the stream that comes from a spring near Steele Creek and Shopton roads. It flows south and east into South Carolina. The name “Steele” is from the Scots-Irish family who settled there in the late 1600s and early 1700s.
Steele Creek is about 46 square miles, covering the area that is south of Charlotte-Douglas International Airport and west of Sugar Creek and Interstate 77. Zip codes are 28273 and 28278.
