Charlotte Mecklenburg Library CEO leaving for family reasons; interim named
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is losing its leader.
CEO Marcellus “MT” Turner is resigning due to “family reasons,” the library announced Thursday. His last day will be May 2.
The library system’s current Chief Financial and Administrative Officer Angela Myers will take over as interim CEO, according to the library’s statement.
Turner oversaw a period of growth and change for the library, including the beginning of construction on a new Main Library in uptown and the opening of a new University City branch.
His departure won’t immediately impact services or projects, the library said in its statement. The library’s Board of Trustees will “begin a search to identify top leadership candidates.”
“We wish MT all the best as he moves forward, and we respect his decision. We thank him for his significant contributions at the Library during a period of tremendous growth,” Board Chair Charles Thomas said. “We have great confidence in Angie Myers, a long-time member of our leadership team, who has accepted the interim CEO role as we continue to improve our Library system and move toward completion of the new Main Library.”
In the statement, Turner said it was a “privilege to serve” in Mecklenburg County.
“I am thankful for my time here and wish the outstanding Charlotte Mecklenburg Library staff and this community only the best as they continue this exciting journey,” he said.
Turner joined the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library in 2021 and previously served as CEO of The Seattle Public Library.
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library system includes 22 locations across Mecklenburg County.
