Drivers on three busy south Charlotte roads face detours through May, as crews close one of the roads to replace underground pipes, state highway officials said Tuesday.

Rea Road south of Providence Lane West will close beginning Monday, May 5, weather permitting, so crews can safely replace the pipes, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Detours will be in place on Rea Road and nearby, heavily-traveled Pineville-Matthews Road (N.C. 51) and Providence Road (N.C. 16) through Friday, May 30, officials said.

“Drivers should remain alert, use caution and reduce speed approaching the work zone,” according to an NCDOT news release.
