Help nears for crash-prone Charlotte intersections, NCDOT says. Expect closures.
Help is on the way for two crash-prone Charlotte intersections, state highway officials said Thursday.
The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $6.8 million contract for two single-lane roundabouts at Oakdale/Miranda/Simpson roads and Oakdale/Sunset/Miranda roads in northwest Charlotte.
“Roundabouts provide more efficient travel conditions for drivers at slower speeds, while reducing the frequency and severity of crashes,” according to an NCDOT news release.
Oakdale road, other closures
Monroe contractor TrueRock Construction LLC can start the work in early January, according to the contract.
Oakdale Road closures will be from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daylight closures on other roads will be allowed during non-peak travel times, according to NCDOT.
Restrictions also will be in place during holiday and other special events that increase traffic in the area, officials said.
The roundabouts should open by summer 2027, according to the state. Landscaping and adding vegetation can continue into 2028, officials said.
