Concord teen froze to death after leaving friend’s house intoxicated, police say
A missing 18-year-old Concord girl was found frozen to death Monday evening after leaving a friend’s house intoxicated Saturday night, a police press release said.
Yadira Hernandez Castro was found dead at 5:30 p.m. Monday in an area around Academy Avenue Northwest, the Concord Police Department’s press release said.
Castro left her home Saturday to meet up with friends, but was supposed to be home around 8 p.m., police said. However, she was last seen leaving her friend’s home on Pine Street Northwest at 10:30 p.m. while intoxicated, police said. Her parents spoke to her on the phone at 10:50 p.m.
Castro was reported missing at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday by her parents after she didn’t return home. Police launched an investigation and obtained footage showing Castro walking near the area where she was found at 12:27 a.m. on Sunday.
She was not found during an initial search Sunday between 4:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., police said. She was found the next evening during a second search.
Investigators suspect Castro’s death was caused by alcohol and freezing temperatures, not foul play, police said. An official cause of death is pending with the state’s medical examiner, the press release said.
