Charlotte grocery shopper wins $100K on an NC scratch-off lottery ticket

This wide, eye-level shot captures the exterior of a brick suburban shopping strip under an overcast sky. The main storefront features a large “Harris Teeter Neighborhood Food & Pharmacy” sign above an arched window entrance, while an attached “Starbucks Coffee” storefront sits directly to its right. In the foreground, several cars, including SUVs and sedans, are parked in an asphalt lot with visible blue accessible parking spaces.

A stop at a Charlotte Harris Teeter store paid off big for a lucky North Carolina lottery player.

Antonio Mancino of Concord won a $100,000 jackpot after trying his luck on a $30 scratch-off, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.

Officials said Mancino purchased the $100,000 Cash Payday game at the Harris Teeter on Brookdale Drive, on the border between Charlotte and Harrisburg.

He beat odds of 1 in 76,752.38 to net the six-figure prize.

He claimed his winnings Tuesday, June 2, at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and took home $72,018 after required taxes. The Cabarrus County man didn’t say how he plans to spend his prize money.

Lottery officials said 64 top prizes remain still up for grabs in the $100,000 Cash Payday game, which debuted in March.

Other big NC lottery wins

It marks the latest in a string of big lottery wins across the Tar Heel State. In May, a Chapel Hill man won $100,000 playing Powerball, The Raleigh News & Observer reported.

Robert Goss would’ve won $50,000 but spent an extra $1 on the Power Play multiplier, doubling his prize.

“This is kind of a fluke thing,” he told the NC Education Lottery at the time. “But it’s always a good time to win $100,000.”

A Fayetteville resident recently turned a $5 scratch-off game into a $200,000 windfall.

Before that, a FastPlay ticket sold at a Publix Supermarket in Cary netted a $1,578,846 jackpot — the largest in the lottery game’s history, officials said.
