Person hospitalized after reported acid incident at west Charlotte chemical plant

A person at a chemical plant in west Charlotte was hospitalized following an incident Friday morning, according to MEDIC.

It occurred in the 8300 block of Wilkinson Boulevard, where DyStar Carolina Chemical is located.

A third-party employee was injured while drilling into a tank that caused a pressurized reaction, causing the tank to spray sulfuric acid onto the worker and causing burns and eye injuries, The Charlotte Observer’s news partner WSOC reported.

One person was treated for serious injuries, MEDIC said.
