CMPD closes part of Selwyn Avenue in Myers Park after sinkhole appears
Drivers in south Charlotte were forced to take an alternate route Monday evening after a sinkhole appeared on a road, according to police.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a 5 p.m. alert that part of the 2900 block of Selwyn Avenue was closed after the sinkhole appeared.
CMPD said Tuesday that while the road isn’t fully closed off, some closures remain and people can expect some traffic delays.
It’s not clear what caused the sinkhole.
Jack VanderToll, a spokesperson for the city of Charlotte, said in an email Tuesday that Charlotte Water crews are making repairs.
The agency said it was responding to a water main break in the same block of Selwyn Avenue at 5:06 p.m. on Monday.
