Myers Park student arrested in uptown shootout in front of open restaurants; 1 business hit
A 16-year-old arrested in an uptown shooting hit one person with gunfire as well as a nearby business on Sunday, according to court records.
Jamariae Blue was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and firing into an occupied property after shooting in front of Mellow Mushroom on West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, a CMPD affidavit filed in court said. He was charged as an adult.
Ink N Ivy, a restaurant on South Church Street, was hit by gunfire while people were inside around midnight Sunday, the affidavit said.
The affidavit said Blue is a student at Myers Park High School.
Court records said Blue was seen running away from a group of people in video surveillance, when he pulled out and fired his gun.
CMPD officers were in the area near Romare Bearden Park enforcing the city’s curfew, a news release said.
A second teen was arrested, but information on the suspect was not available.
Blue was interviewed by detectives and taken to jail. He was given a $750,000 bond.
