A tree came crashing through the roof of a Huntersville home on Tuesday, trapping one of the residents inside, according to first responders.

It happened around 3 p.m. in the 9500 block of Rollingwood Drive, and the tree “completely destroyed” what is suspected to have been a bedroom.

“Stations 1 (and) 4 responded to a large tree down on a mobile home with a person trapped under the tree,” the Huntersville Fire Department wrote in a social media post.

“Crews worked for more than 45 minutes to remove the trapped patient. Using (extrication) tools ... the tree was lifted and the patient was removed. Patient care was immediately transferred to Medic for transport to CMC-Main (hospital).”

Medic ambulance personnel report the patient had life-threatening injuries.

The collapse happened as a thunderstorm was crossing the north end of Mecklenburg County, officials said.

Photos shared on social media show the tree struck a back corner of the home, reducing it to a pile of debris.

The home is in southwest Huntersville, and Google Maps shows the driveway was lined with towering hardwood trees, including one that was dead.
