Spectacular fire strikes old Hildebran High building

Crews are working to put out a fire at the old Hildebran High School building in Hildebran, the Burke County municipality of about 2,000 people just west of Hickory.

The fire was reported at 202 S. Center St. around 5:15 a.m., according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner. The old high school is adjacent to the Town Hall.

Details about the severity of the fire and where it may have started were not immediately available.
