A Connelly Springs woman was sentenced to at least six years in prison after pleading guilty to abusing one of her 3-month-old twins.

The infant’s injuries were found during an investigation into the death of his brother in January. Murder and abuse charges are pending against the infants’ father.

Brittany Nichole Hefner, 25, admitted shaking the surviving infant, Burke County prosecutors said. She pleaded guilty Thursday to attempted felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.

The twins’ father, Nicholas Brandon Clark, 21, faces charges of murder and felony child abuse inflicting serious injury in the death of his other son.

On Jan. 31, Burke County EMS responded to a 911 call of a child not breathing. The infant was hospitalized at Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem, where he died of injuries that investigators said were inflicted by his father.
