3 arrested in connection with fatal shooting on Farmer Street

Police on Thursday arrested a third suspect in connection with an Oct. 12 fatal shooting.

Detavious Springs, 24, was shot when a man and two women tried to rob him during a drug deal, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said. He was shot on Farmer Street, in the Arbor Glen community near Carolina Golf Club.

That’s near where 21-year-old Zachary Joseph Finch was killed in June while responding to an online sales app similar to Craigslist, according to police. Finch, 21, pitched for Kentucky’s University of the Cumberlands. He was on a full scholarship with the program, family members said.

In the Oct. 12 shooting, a 911 caller said a man had been shot in the abdomen and moved to a nearby apartment in the 1700 block of West Boulevard. Police later identified him as Springs. Medic took him to Carolinas Medical Center, where he died during surgery.

On Oct. 17, police arrested 25-year-old Shamekia Hill on charges of attempted murder, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

On Monday, 24-year-old Felicia Woods was arrested and charged with the same offenses as Hill.

Police on Thursday arrested 30-year-old Bobby Smith Jr.

Smith was charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.
