Lenoir police investigate shooting death of 15-year-old

State and federal authorities are investigating the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy inside a Lenoir apartment.

At 11:19 p.m. on Friday, police responded to a report that there was a shooting victim inside an apartment on Atwood Drive.

The Lenoir Fire Department and Caldwell County EMS assessed the victim and pronounced him dead at the scene. The victim was a white male, but police are not yet releasing his name.

WSOC-TV interviewed someone in the home who said that a man had been playing with a gun when it went off, sending a bullet into the boy’s torso.

By Sunday afternoon, no one had been arrested.

The State Bureau of Investigation and Lenoir Police Department are investigating.
