Police are investigating new drink tampering report. This time in Plaza Midwood.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a report that a man was drugged recently while drinking at Common Market, a popular business in Plaza Midwood.
The 34-year-old man told police the incident happened last Friday and that he was robbed during the encounter, according to a police report.
The man was at Common Market on Commonwealth Avenue around 10:30 p.m. when someone placed an "unknown narcotic" into his drink, the police report states.
The drug incapacitated the man, the police report states. His wallet was stolen, along with a company credit card. Purchases were made with card after the wallet was stolen, according to the report.
The incident comes amid investigations by police into recent reports of drinks being spiked at EpiCentre, a popular nightlife entertainment hub in uptown Charlotte.
Last week, a woman reported that she blacked out after her drink was allegedly drugged at a nightclub at EpiCentre.
That report came off the heels of police apologizing for mishandling a case in May where another woman said her drink was drugged at a rooftop bar at the venue. The 31-year-old woman wrote in a Facebook post that an officer told her she couldn't report the incident to police unless she went back to the bar, Rooftop 210, and called police from there.
Police are investigating the officer's conduct, officials said on June 1.
