Police in Gaston County said two people were fatally shot Tuesday morning during a domestic dispute in a mobile home park southeast of Crowders Mountain State Park, and the shooter later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The shootings happened about 5 a.m. in the Berkley Oaks Mobile Home Park, on Archie Road at Omega Drive, off Bethany Road.

Police said they believe the shooter was the woman’s estranged husband. “The suspect and the female victim we believe were married and separated,” Gaston County Police Captain M.K. Shelor said.

Several children, including the couple’s grandchildren, were inside at the time. Police said one child hid in a closet and the others ran to a relative’s home nearby. The children were not injured.

Police have not released the names of the victims and the shooter.
