Dozens attended party where Charlotte 21-year-old was killed, police say

Fifty to 100 people attended a party in northwest Charlotte that ended with a deadly shooting early Sunday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Tuesday.

Police responded to a home on Palm Breeze Lane, in a neighborhood near Rozzelles Ferry and Old Mount Holly roads, around 1:30 a.m., according to a CMPD news release.

Officers found Torriano Devonte Joyce, 21, in front of the home with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

While police interviewed a couple of people at the scene, CMPD Detective Chris Lyon said they need more witnesses to come forward.

“(We’ve learned) that there were more people that were there, that we don’t know who they are and that we would love to talk to them about this case,” Lyon said.

The scene early Sunday was “very chaotic,” CMPD Lt. Brad Koch said.

Joyce was killed just an hour and a half after another Charlotte homicide. Around midnight Sunday, one woman was killed and another was injured just south of uptown, police said. Two men have been charged with murder in connection with that case.

Anyone with information about the Palm Breeze Lane party and Joyce’s death should call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or call CMPD’s homicide unit at 704-432-TIPS.
