The dog whose mouth was taped shut for several days in Charleston underwent surgery on Wednesday, according to the Post and Courier.

Kay Hyman, a spokeswoman for the Charleston Animal Society, told the Post and Courier that Caitlyn lost minimal use of her tongue, but the surgeon expects her to recover. The surgeon had to reconstruct her lip and cheek.

Caitlyn is a 15-month-old neighborhood stray that was found last week with electrical tape wrapped around her mouth, trapping her tongue between her teeth for as much as two days. North Charleston police arrested William Leonard Dodson, 41, and charged him with felony animal cruelty, holding him on $50,000 bail.
