Thieves tried to carry 115 stolen items from Charlotte area mall. They didn’t get far.
Police arrested three people accused of trying to steal 115 items from the JCPenney store at Carolina Place mall in Pineville on Thursday.
Acting on a tip, police converged on the store around 4 p.m. and first arrested a man and a woman, according to a Pineville Police Department news release on Friday. The pair started running when they saw the officers closing in but were arrested, police said.
Investigators found $10,463 of stolen merchandise in their car from various stores, according to police. The driver of the car was also arrested.
Police found other evidence in the car authorities believe could point “towards an organized retail theft group,” according to a police news statement sent Friday.
Officers also found two large magnets and two pairs of wire cutters — tools that can be used to “disrupt” or damage anti-theft sensor tags commonly used in stores.
The three people arrested were charged with felony crimes.
Police identified them as 28-year-old Rashard Travion Tolliver and 25-year-old Erin Shaquille Robbs, both of Spartanburg, S.C., and 28-year-old Kimberly Rodericka Clarke of Roebuck, S.C..
Tolliver was charged with felony larceny, felony possession of stolen goods, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods and misdemeanor resisting a public officer, records show. Police charged Robbs with felony larceny. Clarke was charged with conspiracy to commit felony larceny and misdemeanor resisting a public officer. Officers also charged Clarke under a felony fugitive warrant, police said.
