Charlotte man charged with first-degree murder in baby son’s death

A Charlotte man was arrested and charged with first-degree murder Tuesday in the death of his 5-month-old son.

The baby, Peyton Taylor, was admitted to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital on Jan. 14 “with signs of abusive head trauma,” according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release.

Three days later, CMPD’s homicide unit joined the investigation after police “received information from medical professionals that the injury to the infant was not survivable,” according to the CMPD release. Peyton died on Jan. 22, police said.

The baby’s father, 24-year-old Quandeel Taylor, was charged after homicide detectives arrested and interviewed him on Tuesday and transferred him to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 704-432-8477 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
